Georgia's most exciting new campground — brand new after a $20 million renovation, just 25 minutes from Campfire Adventures in Blakely
Georgia's Brand New Full-Service Lake Camping Destination
George T. Bagby State Park on Lake Walter F George has been completely transformed. After a ribbon-cutting ceremony on December 8, 2025, this 770-acre Southwest Georgia state park opened its doors to overnight guests in Spring 2026 with a brand-new 32-site full-hookup RV campground, 10 new lakeside cottages, a renovated pool, sport courts, an amphitheater, and over a mile of lighted walking paths along the lakeshore. The state invested $20 million to make Bagby a full-service destination — and Campfire Adventures delivers fully-equipped RVs directly to your site, just 25 minutes from our Blakely location.

This is a modern, full-service state park in every sense of the word.
Championship Golf and Trophy Fishing in One Park

Lake Walter F George holds Georgia's state record for blue catfish. There is no other destination in our service area where you can tee off and cast a line on the same day.

Fishing, Golf, Wildlife, and Water Recreation

Trophy Fishing on Lake Walter F George
Lake Walter F George holds Georgia's state record for blue catfish — and Bagby's brand-new fishing pier puts you directly on that water without even launching a boat. Largemouth bass, spotted bass, hybrid striped bass, crappie, bream, and catfish are all present in the 45,000-acre lake. The new boat ramp lets you cover all 640 miles of the lake's diverse shoreline, and the fish cleaning station makes processing your catch easy and clean. Whether you're a lifelong angler or teaching your kids to fish for the first time, Bagby puts you on the right water.
Meadow Links Golf Course
Meadow Links is one of Georgia's most recognized public golf courses, and it sits right inside the park boundary — walkable from the new campground. When Meadow Links first opened in 1998, Golf Digest ranked it the nation's 6th best new affordable public course. Architect Willard Byrd routed 18 holes over gently rolling lakeside terrain with large greens, subtle breaks, and views of Lake Walter F George from multiple holes. It plays 7,000 yards from the championship tees. Affordable rates apply year-round for state park visitors. Book tee times in advance, especially for spring weekends.
Wildlife Viewing and the Lakeshore Path
Bagby's 770 acres along the lakeshore and wetland corridors support wildlife you won't find at many campgrounds. Alligators are visible near wetland and shoreline areas. Bald eagles and osprey patrol the lake. White-tailed deer, beaver, armadillo, river otter, and gopher tortoises all call the park home. The new 1.5-mile lighted path connects the campground and cottages through wetland areas — making it as much a wildlife corridor as a walking trail. Early morning and late evening are the best times to see the most activity.
Seasonal Experiences at George T. Bagby State Park
🌸 Spring Break and Spring (March–May)
Spring 2026 is Bagby's first full season with the new campground — and it starts with Spring Break (March 29 – April 4). Bass fishing peaks during spawning season, the golf course is in prime condition, and wildflowers line the new lakeshore path. This is the most in-demand season at the park's brand-new campground. Book your campsite and RV delivery well in advance.
☀️ Summer (June–August)
Peak season for the swimming beach, the renovated pool, and water sports on the lake. Evening amphitheater programs bring the campground community to life after dark. The lighted walking paths mean you can enjoy the lakeshore long after sunset. Our floating lily pad mats are a summer favorite here for calm water fun near the marina.
🍂 Fall (September–November)
Fall brings excellent fishing, comfortable golf weather, and outstanding wildlife activity along the wetland corridors. The lakeshore path is at its most scenic with fall foliage. Fewer crowds than summer and better campsite availability make fall a great season for couples and multi-generational families who want a relaxed pace with all of Bagby's amenities to themselves.
❄️ Winter (December–February)
Mild Georgia winters keep Bagby open and productive year-round. Winter bass and catfish fishing is excellent on Lake Walter F George. Meadow Links plays most winter days without the summer heat and humidity. Waterfowl activity along the wetland path peaks during winter migration — one of the best birdwatching seasons at the park.
